Texas, Louisiana are both tornado prone in 2019

Both Texas and Louisiana have had a rough start to this year's spring tornado season, with both states on the list of the top ten states with the most confirmed tornados thus far this year.

As of May 6, Texas has experienced 62 tornados, while Louisiana has had 28. As those who live in these areas know, tornados pack very high winds, sometimes approaching or even exceeding 200 miles per hour. Not surprisingly, even commercial buildings can sustain significant damage in a strong tornado.

Based on the recent trend, it is quite possible that the area will see a number of additional tornados. Thus far this year, there have been a surprising number of twisters, with 545 being reported nationwide through May 6.

Typically, by the end of April, there are about 325 such storms. Experts are predicting an additional 325 tornados this May, although the average is about 270. The same experts are expecting a relatively quiet June, with 200 tornados. The average number of tornados in June is about 230.

Should a commercial property owner have the misfortune of losing the property, or having to deal with significant damage, there may be a number of issues that they have to resolve. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, the owner will want to get the business back up and running as soon as possible. In the long term, it will be necessary to figure out how to pay for rebuilding or repairing the property.

Many business owners in Louisiana and Texas have property insurance for just these purposes. However, actually getting a claim for damage filed and properly paid can be a complicated legal process that may even have to involve litigation. An owner may wish to rely on an experienced attorney for assistance.
